How to Share Cross Stitch Patterns with Friends and Family

One of the best parts of creating cross stitch patterns is sharing them. Whether you want to send a pattern to a friend, coordinate a group project, or show off your design on social media, there are several great ways to share your work. Here are the most effective methods.

Sharing as a PDF

PDF is the gold standard for sharing cross stitch patterns. A PDF includes everything the recipient needs — the symbol chart, color key, stitch counts, and thread list — in a single print-ready file.

  • Email the PDF directly to friends or family
  • Upload it to cloud storage like iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox and share the link
  • Print a copy and include it as part of a cross stitch gift kit with fabric and thread

StitchCraft lets you export any pattern as a professionally formatted PDF with one tap, ready to share immediately.

Sharing as an Image

Sometimes you just want to show someone what the finished pattern will look like. A preview image is perfect for this:

  • Color preview shows the design as it will look when stitched, making it easy for others to appreciate the final result
  • Share via text message or messaging apps for a quick visual preview
  • Post to social media to get feedback before you start stitching

StitchCraft generates high-resolution preview images alongside your pattern files so you always have a shareable visual ready.

Group Projects

Cross stitch is even more fun as a collaborative activity. Group projects work well for:

  • Stitch-alongs where everyone works on the same pattern at their own pace
  • Collaborative pieces where each person stitches a section of a larger design
  • Gift projects where a group of friends each stitches a square for a combined piece

Share the pattern PDF with all participants and assign sections or colors to avoid overlap. A shared progress photo thread keeps everyone motivated.

Gifting Patterns

A cross stitch pattern makes a thoughtful gift on its own. Pair it with:

  • A piece of Aida fabric in the right count and size
  • The DMC threads needed for the pattern
  • A suitable embroidery hoop or frame
  • A printed copy of the pattern with care instructions

This gives the recipient everything they need to start stitching immediately.

Sharing on Social Media

The cross stitch community on Instagram, Pinterest, and Reddit is active and supportive. When sharing your patterns:

  • Show both the pattern and the finished piece if you have stitched it
  • Include the stitch count and color count so viewers can gauge the project size
  • Credit the tool you used — tagging StitchCraft helps other stitchers discover pattern creation tools
  • Use relevant hashtags like #crossstitch, #crossstitchpattern, and #stitchcraft

Download StitchCraft from the App Store to create patterns you will love sharing with everyone.
