How to Convert a Company Logo to a Cross Stitch Pattern

Cross stitching a company logo makes a unique corporate gift, team-building activity, or office decoration. But logos present specific challenges — clean lines, exact brand colors, and precise text. Here is how to convert a logo into a cross stitch pattern that looks professional and polished.

Preparing Your Logo File

Start with the best source file possible:

  • Use a PNG or SVG with a transparent background. Avoid JPEGs, which add compression artifacts around sharp edges.
  • Choose the highest resolution available. A small, pixelated logo will produce a blurry pattern.
  • Use a simplified version of the logo if available. Many companies have secondary logo marks without taglines or small details that work better at cross stitch scale.

If you only have a low-resolution file, check the company's brand guidelines or press kit for a high-resolution download.

Simplifying Colors

Most logos use a limited color palette, which is ideal for cross stitch. However, some details need attention:

  • Remove gradients. Cross stitch cannot reproduce smooth gradients. Replace them with flat colors or 2-3 stepped shades.
  • Eliminate drop shadows and other effects that add unnecessary extra colors.
  • Flatten overlapping transparencies into solid colors before converting.

StitchCraft handles most of this automatically when you import the image, but starting with a clean source file always produces better results.

Brand colors matter. A corporate logo stitched in the wrong shade of blue undermines the entire project. Here is how to stay accurate:

  • Look up the brand's Pantone, RGB, or hex color values from their style guide
  • Compare with DMC thread colors to find the closest match. StitchCraft maps imported colors to the nearest DMC equivalents automatically.
  • Test stitch a small sample to verify the colors look right on fabric. Screen colors and thread colors can differ.

For logos with very specific colors, you may want to compare 2-3 DMC options side by side on fabric before committing.

Sizing for Different Projects

Logo patterns work at various sizes depending on the intended use:

  • Coasters or ornaments: 3-4 inches, keep the design very simple
  • Framed desk art: 5-8 inches, good balance of detail and manageable stitch count
  • Wall art or display pieces: 10+ inches, can include more detail and taglines
  • Patches or accessories: small scale, use high-count fabric like 18-count Aida for finer detail

Corporate Gift Ideas

A cross stitched logo makes a memorable gift for:

  • Employee milestones like work anniversaries or retirements
  • Client appreciation gifts that stand out from standard corporate merchandise
  • Team building activities where each team member stitches a section of a large logo
  • Office decor that shows company pride in a handmade, personal way
